Drawing and Illustration

I’ve been drawing all my life. Some of my earliest memories are drawing.

I remember being very young playing with my friends, drawing cars and superheroes, back in Tshiungani village situated in Limpopo province,

where I grew up. In primary school I used to collect newspapers and magazines contains with different comics. Zapiro’s illustrations from Sundaytime’s newspaper had an influence in my drawing skills because

I used draw copying from his funny looking political illustrations.
I thought comic book artists was definitely the job for me.

 

As I grew into my teens, moving from the village to one of the developing town of Thohoyandou, I was introduced to hip pop style, were the graffiti style of hip pop had great influence in me. In my twenties I developed an interest in a more realistic illustration style and began drawing pictures from fashion magazine. Eventually drawing copying a person’s picture from book or magazine felt like un-artistic, unsatifying and cheating. In varsity my skills were developing daily, I began to draw live models in live drawing classes. As I grow my style and interests grow with me. I love drawing.
